1. Give some basic information about your studies and fields of interest.

I’m a Studio arts major with a focus in Photography with a double major in Art History. I’m very interested in Photography and digital art and the use of the mediums to manipulate photos. I’m currently working on post-apocalyptic photos using photography and photoshop to add elements that haven’t happened or give a sense of what can happen in the future. In art history, I am very interested in Pre-Columbian and Meso-American art history as well as Latin American artists.

2. Describe an exhibition that you liked or found impressive. Tell us why. Please provide a link to a website, if possible.

3. Which books did you read of late (art, fiction, non-fiction)? Pick one and go into detail about it.

Currently I’m reading World War Z by Max Brooks. It is a sci-fi book written in a interview based story telling. The book is “An Oral History of the Zombie War.” The stories in the book are those coming from survivors or witnesses of the rise of the zombie plague and the experiences they endured during.

4. What are your main interests besides art?

I’m a huge movie buff. I love horror movies especially. Also, I like doodling, photography, music and concerts.

5. Which blogs do you check regularly?

I’m not much of a blog person, I’m hoping that this class could help me become more of a blogger and a blog reader.

6. Which cultural event has really impressed you lately? This can be a museum, a concert, or anything like that, but also a sports game (if you consider this a cultural event for which there are good reasons). Or anything I am not even thinking of … Again, tell us why.

The last cultural event that I attended was a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The concert was headlined by STS9. I found it interesting because of how vastly diverse the people that attended, but how music brought us all together and allowed us to enjoy one another’s company.

7. Please describe briefly an article in a newspaper or a magazine that got you thinking lately. Reading online is fine, and what you introduce here does not have to be about art. If the respective article is available online, please link to it!

8. Please share with us a thought or an idea that really widened your intellectual horizon. Again, this must not be limited to the visual arts. If possible, give a source for this idea so that others know where to go to if they are interested.

Currently, I’m in a Dance, Religion and Culture class. There was one specific statement that my professor told the class. He said “most of us think dancing is away of expression and that we go out to clubs or bars to express ourselves through dance, but If you look around everyone is doing the same dance moves. So let me ask you this? Are we all expressing ourselves in the same ways?” I found this very interesting because I never really thought about it in that context. Expression should come from the soul and a lot of us express ourselves in the same ways sometimes through our art or through dance.

9. Have you been to the Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver and BMoca Boulder? Describe one art object or a show you remember seeing.

I have been to the Denver Art Museum and BMOCA. The last exhibit I saw was the Embrace! Exhibit at the DAM. The Embrace exhibit was amazing. It was filled with contemporary artists that I knew and that I was seeing for the first time. One piece I remember seeing did Sandy Scocglund call the piece “Fox Games”. It’s a piece that puts grey foxes inside of a vibrant red room. The clash of the colors made it very hard to look at but also made me not want to look away.
