Camille Breslin

1. Give some basic information about your studies and fields of interest.

Hello, my name is Camille Breslin and I am currently a junior in the Studio Art department. My emphasis is photography. I am a transplant from Great Barrington, Massachusetts and truly an “east coaster”. I like to sing (in the privacy of the shower) and my favorite food in the entire world is any cut of steak. Yes, it’s true.

2. Describe an exhibition that you liked or found impressive. Tell us why. Please provide a link to a website, if possible.

The most impressive exhibition that I’ve been to was the Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, NY. The set up, the work it self and the emotional state that you left in was truly something else. As the viewer, I got this insight or felt this connection to McQueen’s work and inspired me to create some of my own work today. Leaving the exhibit, you feel breathless, emotionally strained, haunted, yet truly grateful and honored to experience such a line of history and revolutionary changes towards the fashion industry with his work.

3. Which books did you read of lately (art, fiction, non-fiction)? Pick one and go into detail about it.

Toy Giants by Daniel and Geo Fuchs. It pretty much is a collection of different toys, action figures, and model dolls set up and photographed.

4. What are your main interests besides art?

I like to Cook, sing, play puzzles, doodle, snowboard, and just being outside and enjoying the weather out in Colorado.

5. Which blogs do you check regularly?

The grilled cheese social and food porn daily…I’m a little addicted to food photography

6. Which cultural event has really impressed you lately? This can be a museum, a concert, or anything like that, but also a sports game (if you consider this a cultural event for which there are good reasons). Or anything I am not even thinking of … Again, tell us why.

I guess the recently passed bill in D.C in regards to gay marriage rights. I think it’s spectacular that our culture has achieved such greatness when it comes to gender rights and LGBT rights.

7. Please describe briefly an article in a newspaper or a magazine that got you thinking lately. Reading online is fine, and what you introduce here does not have to be about art. If the respective article is available online, please link to it!

The most recent article that I read about a quick write up about Etta James. She recently passed away a couple of days ago and the NYTimes.com did a remarkable write up on her as a person, a singer, and her life and a soulful and empowered performer and lady. It was truly moving and gave a wonderful insight on her life.

8. Please share with us a thought or an idea that really widened your intellectual horizon. Again, this must not be limited to the visual arts. If possible, give a source for this idea so that others know where to go to if they are interested.

An article I read last year for American Art History. It was about Remington, the old Wild West painters and the idea and fascination of westward expansion. It went into detail about out interpretation of the “wild west” and how really it’s all an illusion and doesn’t actually hold any adequate proof that the “wild west” existed the way we imagine it. The article went into further detail to talk about the regurgitation of information that inspired painters like Remington through museum, old cowboy stories, and fascinations. I thought it was interesting to read this because a painter couldn’t capture the moment of a cowboy/Indian throw down, or a stampede, or any high action story.

9. Have you been to the Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver and BMoca Boulder? Describe one art object or a show you remember seeing.

I’ve been to the Denver museum multiple times, but sadly, I don’t think I’ve stepped into BMoca. I’ve seen it and know where it’s located, but never really been.
