Intellectual Profile

1. What is your major and when will you be graduating. Do you have specific interests in art history?

My major is Art History and I will be graduating in May.  I think most periods in Art History are interesting, but my favorite have been Pre-Colombian and anything from Modernism onward.

2. Why are you interested in the topic of the class?

I am interested in the journalistic aspect of wartime art.

3. Have you written a research paper before? How long? Did it include endnotes and bibliography? Have you ever used Norlin library for your research?

Yes, 20 pages, yes, and yes.

4. Which books did you read of late (art, fiction, non-fiction)?

I am currently reading Grisham’s The Pelican Brief for fun.

5. Which artist really impresses you? And why?

I think that Damien Hirst impresses me because he has created such a massive art empire.  I don’t know how I feel about his work or his ethics, but in terms of business, no one can argue that he is quite brilliant.

6. What are your main interests besides art?

I like Sociology, Criminology, and Law classes.  Women’s Rights and AIDS awareness are issues I am passionate about.

7. Which blogs do you check regularly?

I check lots of news sites but my favorite fun blog is called “The Frisky” and features fashion, news, and lifestyle articles.

8. Which cultural event has really impressed you lately? This can be a museum/exhibition, a concert, or anything like that, but also a sports game (if you consider this a cultural event for which there are good reasons). Or anything I am not even thinking of … Again, tell us why.

The last big “cultural event” I went to was the ballet Swan Lake.  I’m still trying to go see the classics of opera and ballet, but what I’ve realized is how much different arts styles intersect.  For instance, I recognized half of the music from Swan Lake just from commercials and pop culture.
