Intellectual Profile – Janeesa Jeffery

1. Give some basic information about your studies and fields of interest.

-I am currently a junior and i am majoring in sociology. I hope that one day I can help young children that come from a broken home or have a single parent continue on the right path and not succumb to the wrong lifestyle like many do. Sociology is very broad so i’ll definitely look at a few different things to take on. I also took three full courses of sign language and also continue to work on those skills as well i find it very interesting.

2. Describe an exhibition that you liked or found impressive. Tell us why. Please provide a link to a website, if possible.

-I have not yet been to a exhibition, but i am excited to be able to get the chance to in this class.

3. Which books did you read of late (art, fiction, non-fiction)? Pick one and go into detail about it.

-The last book that i have read was Dr.Seuss Green Eggs and Ham to my little cousins when I got to go home for winter break. I still find the children’s books very amusing mainly because I am a big kid at heart and I enjoy little kids as well.

4. What are your main interests besides art?

-My main interests are definitely basketball I am the point guard for our University here. I love to make music ans write poems and I love to draw. I am a big shoe fanatic I’m really into fashion as well.

5. Which blogs do you check regularly?

-I don’t have any other blogs or check any.

6. Which cultural event has really impressed you lately? This can be a museum, a concert, or anything like that, but also a sports game (if you consider this a cultural event for which there are good reasons). Or anything I am not even thinking of … Again, tell us why.

-I went to the summer jam concert in July and it was impressive because it has been a long time since i have been to a concert that i remember and it was just amazing how much energy was in the atmosphere and to be able to see great performing artists. I don’t have much time outside of basketball to enjoy other things in life so this was a great experience and time for me to spend with my friends and tighten my relationship.

7. Please describe briefly an article in a newspaper or a magazine that got you thinking lately. Reading online is fine, and what you introduce here does not have to be about art. If the respective article is available online, please link to it!

-I have as of late read an article about how the Oklahoma State Women’s coaches passed away due to a plane crash. It was really sad and it just makes me think that as humans we sometimes take life for granted each minute and each second is truly a blessing and anything can happen at anytime without any one knowing their fate. I just took the time out to call my family and have conversations with them, let each of them know that i love them and make the time for them because any day can be someones last. It makes you appreciate and value life no matter where you are because your living. It shouldn’t take tragic situations like that for people to realize theses things so i continue to make sure i reach out and stay in touch with the people that i love because it could be the last.

8. Please share with us a thought or an idea that really widened your intellectual horizon. Again, this must not be limited to the visual arts. If possible, give a source for this idea so that others know where to go to if they are interested.

-Well, I took a class last semester called “Self in Modern Society”. It really will open up your mind to thinking about the self and the impulse self. Also, that we are continuously evolving as one in a society and our surroundings and social interactions shape ones personal experience. I learned a lot in that class that I will carry on with throughout life.

9. Have you been to the Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver and BMoca Boulder? Describe one art object or a show you remember seeing.

-I have not yet been to any of these art museums.

If you haven’t done so yet, please upload a portrait of yours that will appear next to your future posts so that we all know who is speaking. You can upload an image if you go to your profile under users.

  1. I don’t have too much time to read but I feel like I could make time for some Dr. Suess. Seems easy enough. I am a kid at heart as well :)

  2. Janeesa,
Bravo for such and adamant pursuit in Academia! It is wonderful that you are striving to help those less fortunate. Three classes in sign language? That sounds very interesting. Do you read braille as well? It must be very exciting to be in such a ground breaking class occurring post history, and to be entering into the art world for what appears to be the first time. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
