Tony McKendry Intellectual Profile

1. Give some basic information about your studies and fields of interest.
-I am a studio art major, my focuses are mainly photography and digital art; i enjoy graphic design, and electronic music production
2. Describe an exhibition that you liked or found impressive. Tell us why. Please provide a link to a website, if possible.
To be honest, I’ve not seen or been to almost any art related exhibitions.
3. Which books did you read of late (art, fiction, non-fiction)? Pick one and go into detail about it.
The last book I read that I enjoyed was called “A million little pieces” by James Frey, it tells the story of a drug addict that finally hits rock bottom, and about his time in rehab mainly. Originally, Frey had gone on Oprah and said that the book was a true account of his life, but it was later revealed that most of the story was made up.
4. What are your main interests besides art?
Music has become a huge interest in the last few years, I DJ and produce music, which has become one of my main passions as of late
5. Which blogs do you check regularly?
Does engadget count? Otherwise the only one i’ll look at from time to time is called inspiremenow,
6. Which cultural event has really impressed you lately? This can be a museum, a concert, or anything like that, but also a sports game (if you consider this a cultural event for which there are good reasons). Or anything I am not even thinking of … Again, tell us why.
electronic music shows these days are mindblowing to me, the synestisia created by the sounds and visuals, as well as the entire atmosphere is really great. To be specific, the last show I went to was a local band-gone-big called Savoy
7. Please describe briefly an article in a newspaper or a magazine that got you thinking lately. Reading online is fine, and what you introduce here does not have to be about art. If the respective article is available online, please link to it!
No article really stands out in my mind right now, I have, of course, been reading a lot about the SOPA/PIPA issues lately, as well the as the takedown of Kim Dotcom from Megaupload, which I found to be pretty interesting.
8. Please share with us a thought or an idea that really widened your intellectual horizon. Again, this must not be limited to the visual arts. If possible, give a source for this idea so that others know where to go to if they are interested.
9. Have you been to the Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver and BMoca Boulder? Describe one art object or a show you remember seeing.
If you haven’t done so yet, please upload a portrait of yours that will appear next to your future posts so that we all know who is speaking. You can upload an image if you go to your profile under users.
I’ve been to both MCA Denver and BMoca Boulder, I was still in high school (and not very interested in art at the time) when I went to MCA so nothing really sticks out in my mind. When I went to BMoca, there was a weird exhibition going on (I think CU students’ work) which was comprised of homemade chicken coops; to me this didn’t really even fall under the category of art.
